Q.California in-state tution

제 지인으로 부터 받은 이메일 입니다.

UCSD에 한 참 전에 아래의 이메일을 보냈는데, 메시지가 등록 되었다는 메일 이외에는 아직 아무런 답변을 받지 못했다고 합니다.  그래서 여기에 질문을 올립니다.


"Hi, 


I am a divorced mother who has a 12th grade son.  I moved to California 2017 and have been working as a real estate agent since then.  My son lives with his father in the state of New Jersey and is attending high school there (he will stay in New Jersey until his graduation next year).

He has great interest in studying at UCs, especially UCSD. 

My question is 'is he eligible to be a resident student'? (Since I am a resident of California)
If not, what do we need to tend to the issues and how long will it take to be a resident student?

Your answer would be a great help for us.

BOTH you and your parent must be in an eligible immigration status and
satisfy the "Physical Presence" and
"Intent to Remain in California" requirements.]

"To establish residence for tuition purposes, you must satisfy 3 conditions:
1) Physical presence
2) Intent to become a California resident
3) Financial independence

You must be physically present in California for more than one year (366 days)
immediately prior to the residence determination date of the term
for which resident classification is requested.

You must have come here with the intent to make California your home
as opposed to coming to this state to go to school.

Physical presence within the state solely for educational purposes
doesn't constitute the establishment of California residence,
regardless of the length of your stay. . . . . . "

"The financial independence requirement will not be a factor in residence determination
if you are a student who is financially dependent upon a California resident parent
who meets the university's requirements for residence for tuition purposes
(one year physical presence with intent to remain in the state)."
