To Renew Your Maryland License, Please Bring:

Your expiring Driver's License and the fee.

You must pass a vision screening or submit a Vision Screening form.
You will be required to provide proof of a social security number (SSN) that can be verified by the Social Security Administration, or proof of ineligibility for an SSN. If you held a valid Maryland driver's license, permit or identification card prior to April 19, 2009, you may be eligible for a subsequent license, permit, or identification card without proof of lawful presence or SSN, but it will not be acceptable for official federal purposes.
License may be renewed without additional tests up to one year after expiration.
Driving with an expired license is against the law.
Additionally, you must change your name if applicable with the Social Security Administration (SSA) BEFORE you come to the MVA to renew your license, permit, or identification card. This update may take the SSA 48 hours or longer to complete before the MVA will be able to electronically verify the changed/corrected information. Note: Effective January 30, 2012, commercial drivers must provide the MVA with copies of their updated medical documentation (DOT Card and Waiver/exemption if required) for the duration of their CDL, whether they are actively operating a commercial motor vehicle or not. The MVA will be contacting CDL holders, subject to the new FMCSA requirements staring January 30, 2012 through January 30, 2014. You DO NOT need to submit your medical certification (Med Cert) information or declare a self-certification category with the MVA until you have been directly contacted by the Administration. However, if you visit a MVA branch office to renew or obtain a duplicate, corrected, or new CDL, you will be required to present valid Med Cert documentation at that time. 한가지 부가하자면-
시력검사는 MVA에서 줄서서 힘들게 할 필요없이, 미리 시력검사(Vision Screening form.)을 다운 받아 아무 검안과에 가서 테스트 받아 작성해서 가지고 가면 시력검사가 면제 됩니다.

신분에 상관없이 서류미비자도 소셜만 있으면 5년 짜리 아이디로 사용할 수 있는 면허증으로 갱신해준다고 면허국 직원이 직접 알려주었습니다. 심지어 운전만 하는 면허증을 발급받은 사람들도 추후에 소셜을 가지고 가면 아이디로 사용할수 있는것으로 바꾸어 준다고 했구요. 만약 소셜이 없고 신분도 안되면 2015년까지 운전만 할 수 있는 면허증으로 갱신해줍니다.
직원한테 두달전에 들은 이야기지만 다시한번 확인해보시고 진행하세요.

님의 경우는 면허증만 가지고 가시면 갱신하실 수 있습니다. (혹시 모르니까 소셜 카드와 여권도 같이 가지고 가시기 바랍니다.)

단 서류 미비자인 경우에는 운전만 가능한 면허증을 발급받게 될 것입니다.
그 면허증으로는 연방 건물에 들어 가시거나 국내선 비행기를 타실 때에는 사용하실 수 없게 될 것입니다.
혹시 연방 건물에 들어가실 때나 국내선 비행기를 타실 때에는 유효한 여권을 사용하시면 됩니다.
