The owner of the wallet may sue you either in civil court for money damages or report you to the police for criminal prosecution. First, with regards to civil, I seriously doubt that he will sue you. Even if he does, we are talking about a lost wallet (probably worth not much). As for criminal prosecution, I doubt the prosecutors will prosecute this case. However, if they do, you are entitled to a free public defender who can defend you at no charge to you.
