The fact that you did not pay taxes for several years may be a problem when you file for citizenship. One of the requirements to naturalize is that the applicant must have good moral character. If you did not pay taxes that you owed, then U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may determine that you lack good moral character for citizenship purposes. You may try and resolve your tax issues before filing your naturalization paperwork.
