복지 개혁: 1996년 8월 22일 클린턴 대통령 재임시 시작된 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996, Public Law 104-193, better known as the Welfare Reform Bill 를 잘 이해하시고 부모님을 초청하십시요. 1996년 이전 미국으로 이민오신 많은 노인들이 미국 정부 혜택을 받을수 있었읍니다. 예를 들며는, SSI월폐어, Medicaid (칼리포니아는 Medical), 그리고 Medicare등이였읍니다. 허나 이제는 1996년 이후로 이민오시는 노인들께서는 미국 시민권 이나, 40 Social Security quarters of coverage(10년 일을하면서 세금을 내었을경우) 와 같은 자격이 있기전까지는 거의 모든 혜택을 못받는것으로 이해하시면 되겠습니다. 또한 부모 초청 하실때 싸인 하는 affidavit of support: The Affidavit of Support is legally required for the petitioning sponsor for many family-based and some employment based immigrants to show the intending immigrant will have adequate means of support, when planning to immigrate to the U.S. The purpose of the process is to prove that the intending immigrant has adequate means of financial support and is unlikely to become a public charge.
