There are always two sides to every story. Hence, it is difficult to predict what actually happened. Generaly, the officers have a right to arrest with probable cause and to investigate the matter. You are not entitled to speak with an attorney or friend until they are done with their initial investigation. Of course, at a later time, you will be given an opportunity to speak with family members or an attorney. They will also give you a Miranda right that is to say that you have a right to remain silent and to hire an attorney to defend yourself.
If you truly feel that the arrest was improper, you can either file a complaint with the station where the office works. You can also file a civil lawsuit against the officer, the City or the County.
Of course, if you have a court date on the underlying case, you must defend yourself in that case too.
