How to Become a PGA Teaching Pro

Most golfers know of the PGA from the PGA Tour, where professional golfers like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els compete in televised golf tournaments. But the PGA is actually more than just the PGA Tour. The PGA provides numerous services, including golf training and certification. Only PGA pros can teach at PGA-recognized golf schools and facilities. Becoming one is a long process, but anyone can do it if she qualifies.

Meet the prerequisites for registration in the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program. You must have a high school diploma or be at least 18 years old with a GED or other equivalent. You must have been employed full-time for at least six months in an eligible position during the prior year and currently employed in an eligible position. Many different paid golf facility or equipment positions can count as eligible employment, including club fitting and repair, general manager, golf manufacturer sales or management, and of course, golf instructor.

Pass the Playing Aptitude Test, or PAT. You must have passed the test within two years prior to applying to the program.

Enroll as a student in the PGA PGM Program at one of the 20 universities offering the degree. Each university has different eligibility and entrance requirements and course work. Upon completion of the 4.5- to 5-year program, you will graduate as a PGA member. Enrollees in the university program may skip the remainder of the steps.

Become a PGA apprentice. Get a job under a qualified PGA professional, complete the apprentice registration form and pay all apprentice fees.

Complete the PGA PGM Program application and order the Level 1 Kit.

Complete 36 work credits as an apprentice. Specific tasks and activities are required. Examples include "Golf Club Design and Repair," "Analysis of the Swing," "Turfgrass Management" and "Caddie Program Management." The educational trainings and checkpoints can occur concurrently with earning the work credits.

Register for the PGA PGM Program Level 1 Checkpoint. Checkpoints are completed at the PGA Education Center in Palm Springs, Florida. There are three checkpoints that must be passed. Each requires a combination of self-study and seminar attendance, followed by passing a written knowledge test and performing a simulation test. Repeat for the Level 2 Checkpoint and Level 3 Checkpoint.

PGA Teaching Pro 는 그리 간단한 과정을 거쳐 되지는 못하는 분야입니다. PGA teaching Pro 는 어느나이에나 될수있지 않다는것은 아래의 영문으로 된 요건을 읽어보시면 됩니다. 정말 어렸을때부터 골프장에서 살다싶이 해야하는 삶을 살아야 합니다. 그에 따른 학교코스도 이수하여야하고, 등 등 평범하며 골프를 무척이나 좋아하고 씽글을 친다고 해서 티칭프로가 되지는 못합니다. 티칭프로와 프로플레이어와는 완전히 다른분야입니다. 골프를 스코어가 좋게 로우 핸디를 친다고해서 티칭프로가 되는건 아니지요. 티칭하는것과 play 하는것과는 다름을 아셔야합니다.

아래의 조건을 갖추면 PGA Pro 가 됩니다. How to become a PGA Teaching Pro. 참조하십시요. 다른 쉬운방법은 없습니다.

PGA Pro 는 너무 힘들기 때문에 티칭프로를 양성하는 전문기관이 몇곳있습니다.

한국에도 지부가 있는 www.usgtf.com (United States Golf Teachers Federation) in Florida

또, www.pgtaa.com 에 접속하시어 알아보시면 학교에 다니면서 하지 않고 일주일정도의 기간에 티칭에 대한 기초부터 공부하며 과정끝에 Certificate 도 받고 라이센스도 받게 됩니다. 모든과정을 필기, 실기시험, 티칭시험, 모두 영어로 합니다. 비용은 일이천불정도합니다. 라이센스를 받으면 골프초보자부터 또는 로우핸디에게도 티칭할수있는 자신이 생깁니다. 참고가 되셨길 바랍니다.

pga pro B 라는 PGA Teaching Pro 자격증이 있는지 궁금합니다. PGA Member Classification 에 보면 B 라는 카테고리에서는 수많은 종류가 나열되어 있습니다만 PGA Pro B 라고 하는것은 못찾겠으니.... 답답합니다.

너무 늦은 나이에 도전하는 것 같아
안타깝네요.
혹 결혼 하셨나요.
일하시면서 하기에는 돈이 많이드는 길입니다. 진짜로 많이 듭니다.

아니 영어에 자신없으시면 갈수엇는 길입니다.

영어에 자신 있으셔도,돈이 잇어도, 골프수준이 로우싱글이 아니면 피지에이 티칭프로 될수 없습니다.
차라리 다른 공부하고 투자하여 박사학위를 따는 것이 더 쉬운 길입니다.
그 만큼 어려운 길입니다.

한인들 중 티칭프로분들은 많지만 피지에이 티칭프로 과정을 마친 완벽히 졸업하신분은 몇 안됩니다.
다 과정중에 있다가 힘들어 포기하거나, 한국프로들이죠.
희망에 말슴을 드려야 하는데....... 너무 늦은나이에 실력도 보기정도로는 그 길을 절대로 가지 말리고 말리고 싶습니다.
물론 골프가 좋아서 학교가서 공부도 하고 싶으시면 말리지는 않겟습니다.
그리고 학교들은 샌디에고, 테메큘라(pgc)가 엘에이서 까가운 학교들입니다.

위의 학교들 나오면 골프장에 취직은 됩니다. 아주 좁은 문이지만.......

그리고 티칭프로라고 자기들끼리 티칭도 가르칩니다.

엄밀히 말하자면 위 학교들 졸업했다고 티칭프로라고 하면
한국으로 말하자면
갓 대학졸업햇는데 프로라고 하면 웃기잖아요

적어도 큐스쿨에 합격하여 졸업은 해야지요(대학원과정)
이때부터가 진짜입니다.
플로리다에 가서 집중교육을 받는데 이때 드는 ㅂ용이 장난이 아닙니다.
비행기 왕복 숙식,숙박, 학비, 거의 10000불 개집니다. 한번 비용이지요

이렇게 졸업할대까지....... 시험 덜어지면 추가비용듭니다.

3-4주간 정도 집중공부하고 나머지는 집에서 ,현장 골프장에서 실습과 이론을 겸한 숙제의 량이 많습니다.

어휴 그만 슬께요

정말 하고 싶으시면
영조대왕님께 진지하게 물어보세요 ㅎㅎㅎ

그냥 재미있게 골프치시며 사세요...

PGA 프로테스트는 www.pgalinks.com에서 등록하고 진행하며,
일단, PAT(실기 시험 하루 36홀, 152타 정도가 합격선입니다. 그러면,
PGA 프로 B로서, PGA.com에 등록하게 되며, 티칭프로의 자격이 주어집니다. 그리고. LA지역에서 열리는 PGA 대회에도 예선전에도 나갈 수 있고, PGA Q 스쿨에도 나갈 수 있습니다.
PGA 프로 A는 2년안에 B가 치루어야할, 교육 등을 이수하여 통과할 경우에 수여되는 흔히 말하는 Class A 프로페셔널입니다

PAT(playing ability test) 에서 152타 쳤다고 pga pro B 가 되며 티칭프로의 자격이 주어집니까? pgalinks.com 이나 pga.com, 혹은 구글써치에서도 pga teaching pro 가 되려면 거쳐야할 코스가 어떤것인지 상세하게 기술되어 있는데 어찌 playing ability test 에서 100불 내고 36훌 골프 잘쳐서 152타 치면 티칭프로의 자격까지 받게 됩니끼? 자세한 보충설명좀 올려 주십시요.

고정민 선생님 참 대단하십니다. 저도 골프를 좋아해서 늘 시청하고 플레이는 해서 골프가 얼마나 어려운 운동인지 잘 압니다. 하지만 link 해주신 기사를 읽으니 기자가 재미를 주려고 좀 과장을 한 것 같고 잘못된 정보를 주는 것 같읍니다.

기사에 "먼데이 퀄러파잉에서 5위 안에만 들면 토너먼트에도 출전할 수 있게 됐다"
"물론 11월부터 시작되는 퀄러파잉 스쿨에 참가 상위 25위 안에 들면 풀시드도 가능하다" 이런 말이 있어서 그냥 웃어 넘기려다 한 자 적읍니다.

PGA 와 LPGA의 school 에 참가하는 사람들은 부류는 이렇습니다. 1. 전년도 PGA, LPGA 회원중 하위 약 50% 상금획득자 (100 명 이상) 2 . 미국 2 부 tour 인 nationwide tour , future 회원 3. 전 세계 자국 프로 투어에서 몇 등안에 드는 프로 선수 4, 미국의 아마츄어 대회 출신 선수들

이들이 몇 번의 예선을 거쳐서 걸러지고 걸러져서 최종 Q school 에서죽음의 6 round 끝에 25 명이 꿈의 tour 에 들어갑니다.
우리나라골프 선수중 PGA tour에 입성한 선수는 한 4명 정도인 걸로 압니다. 최경주 ,양용은 선수도 모두 재수해서 들어갔다죠.
monday quality 도 이런 선수들이 경쟁하죠. 농구 전설 michle jordan 도 은퇴 후 죽도록 했는데 결국 2부 nationwide tour 입성도 못했읍니다. 기사를 보면 아마츄어 골프들이 나도 함 해볼까? 그런 생각이 들게 써 놓아서 적어 봤읍니다. 한국 분들 중에 골프를 너무 좋아하셔서 그런 꿈을 꾸시는 40대를 주위에서 종종 봤읍니다. 판단은 각자가 해야겠죠.
